The modern township of Kalyani is maintained and administered by the Kalyani municipality which was upgraded as a municipality in the year 1995. It has 20 councillors; most of them are elected from their respective wards within the city while some have been nominated by the government of West Bengal. The Kalyani municipality is dedicated towards providing a number of indispensable services to its citizens including water supply, street lighting, monitoring public health, sewerage and drainage, collection of waste including bio-medical waste, town planning, development of roads, markets, stadiums, bus stands, license and property tax and many other functions required for the smooth maintenance of public affairs.

The first hospital in Kalyani was the Army Hospital constructed during the Second World War through British and American alliance. This was later converted into a T.B. Hospital in the 1960s under the aegis of the then Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. It is now known as Netaji Subhash Sanatorium. Currently, the largest hospital in Kalyani is the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital which was established in 1964 and has a provision for 550 beds. The Employee’s State Insurance Hospital (E.S.I Hospital) was established in 1968 and caters to medically insured people working in the Silpanchal area or the industrial belt of Kalyani. It has about 250 beds.
